All That's Yet To Come

All That's Yet To Come
Dave Gunning / Ray Stewart
Back before I met you I left some things behind
The clouds wouldn't move if the stars would align
I can see in my mistakes I'm the master of none
Try and love yourself first before anyone
This is who you are
This is what you've done
Be proud of the past
And all that's yet to come
And the chance to get ahead was cheaper than my pride
There were books I hadn't read and songs I didn't write
And the spirit of the truth I wouldn't compromise
Led me to a place where I can sleep at night
This is who you are
This is what you've done
Be proud of the past
And all that's yet to come
If you can't think of anything that you really need
Then it's safe to say you don't need anything
We made it through the blue it all worked out fine
And I'm better off with you in this heart of mine
This is who you are
This is what you've done
Be proud of the past
And all that's yet to come

Circle of Boots
Dave Gunning/ Thom Swift
We stood together at the edge of a flame
With no sign of rain
Walking together stirring the dust
That keeps following us
Count on me cause I'm counting on you
To see it all through like old friends do
I trust every soul here in this room
As we stare at the ground and put our faith in this circle of boots
The lines on our faces are starting to show
Now we're taking it slow
The sidewalks have cracks that go straight through
They're way-worn too
Count on me cause I'm counting on you
To see it all through like old friends do
I trust every soul here in this room
As we stare at the ground and put our faith in this circle of boots
I saw us laughing ice water in our veins
To hell with the devil he was never gonna look this way
Awoke in the morning to a telephone ring
That changed everything
Now we're back here together all but one
With arm in arm and heads hung
Count on me cause I'm counting on you
To see it all through like old friends do
I trust every soul here in this room
As we stare at the ground and put our faith in this circle of boots
As we stare at the ground and put our faith in this circle of boots

Celebrate The Crop
Dave Gunning
They were the poorest of the poor didn't even have a pot
Didn't know any different didn't give it a thought
Got married in June had a bath in May
She carried pretty flowers and stayed in the shade
She carried pretty flowers and stayed in the shade
Far up on the roof it's raining cats and dogs
Papa's in bed he sleeps like a log
Filled up the tub mom and daddy went first
Finally the baby you could lose him in the dirt
Finally the baby you could lose him in the dirt
The bacon's hanging up everyone's coming over
And we'll share all that we've got
Preachers drinkers smokers poets lovers jokers
All gathered there to celebrate the crop
All gathered there to celebrate the crop
If you had a dirt floor you were dirt poor
Lay down the straw all the way to the door
The kettle was on when the cookstove was hot
Scrape it all together and throw it in the pot
Scrape it all together and throw it in the pot
Stompin' up the dust when the fiddle rings
Dancing in the darkness pounding on the strings
Sneaking round the corner and lovin' clumsily
Never having much and sharing everything
Never having much but sharing everything
…… sometimes too much
Drank the whiskey down from a poison cup
Passing out so hard never waking up
Sleeping in the cold that's why I don't believe in hell
Someone's in the graveyard listening for the bell
Someone's in the graveyard listening for the bell
The bacon's hanging up everyone's coming over
And we'll share all that we've got
Preachers drinkers smokers poets lovers jokers
All gathered there to celebrate the crop
All gathered there to celebrate the crop
Stompin' up the dust when the fiddle rings
Dancing in the darkness pounding on the strings
Preachers drinkers smokers poets lovers jokers
All gathered there to celebrate the crop
All gathered there to celebrate the crop

Horse For Sale

Horse For Sale
Dave Gunning/ Ray Stewart
When times were good and the workin' paid
We hardly make enough now to get through another day
With every morning sun we'd wake up to feed the cows
Our future was carved behind the plow
There's a horse for sale and a field where he can graze
With a 100 acre farm that's seen better days
The barn's falling down beside the house where I was raised
It's all yours if you buy this horse for sale
And the corn once grew up against the sky
And the wheat fields waved at the trains passing by
It was steel on steel now it's bone on bone
The old Massey used to run but now it won't
There's a horse for sale and a field where he can graze
With a 100 acre farm that's seen better days
The barn's falling down beside the house where I was raised
It's all yours if you buy this horse for sale
The rain didn't come and the sun didn't go
'til it flooded in the fall right before the snow
Things got hard and we struck out
We managed to get by on little up to now
But for this old horse there's not much left
And we can't bear to see our old friend starve to death
There's a horse for sale and a field where he can graze
With a 100 acre farm that's seen better days
The barn's falling down beside the house where I was raised
It's all yours if you buy this horse for sale
All yours if you buy this horse for sale

Ferris Wheel

Ferris Wheel
Dave Gunning/ Jamie Robinson
I remember the tattooed carny a smoke down by his side
Yelling from the top of his lungs 3 tickets for a ride
So I stole you from the Tilt-A-Whirl for something more my speed
With that Massey Harris purring you sat down next to me
We went riding on a Ferris wheel going round and round
Whenever we reached the top we had the best view in town
Not a trouble in mind for a moment in time
It seemed the world was just you and me
Riding on a ferris wheel
Some lights glowed in yellow some in midnight blue
Some had burned out long ago from too much Motley Crüe
High above that midway stealing our first kiss
I closed my eyes and said a silent ‘thank-you’ to Bill Lynch
We went riding on a Ferris wheel going round and round
Whenever we reached the top we had the best view in town
Not a trouble in mind for a moment in time
It seemed the world was just you and me
Riding on a ferris wheel
And now here we are all these years down the road
And one thing I know is true
That was the best two bucks that I ever spent
To take that ride with you
Riding on a Ferris wheel going round and round
Whenever we reached the top we had the best view in town
Not a trouble in mind for a moment in time
It seemed the world was just you and me
Riding on a ferris wheel

In The Time I Was Away

In The Time I Was Away
Dave Gunning/ Mark Lang
Faithful like a friend dog-eared pages turning inward
Between the lines I was lost awhile
Now I'm walking in the cold and it's heavy on me now
Heavy water on me now
I thought of fiction and of romance but nothing any more
Outrageous than the truth
With the morning star appearing I was missing you
Ya, I was missing you
In the time I was away
In the time I was away
Autumn winds were following those newspaper men
Who kept spinning 'til they grounded
I was rich among the rags I'd read the daily blue
And it always was the same
In the time I was away
In the time I was away
There was nothing that couldn't wait
In the time I was away
40 days on this trip I had been on
That's 40 nights I had been gone
And somehow in a town where nothing changes
Things got rearranged with probably me to blame
Faithful like a friend dog-eared pages turning inward
Between the lines I was lost awhile
Now I'm walking in the cold for something out of reach
In the shape of you and me
What it is remains unnamed
Neither of us can explain
That's just what it became
In the time I was away

The Loyal Fisherman

The Loyal Fisherman
Dave Gunning
I knew her once when I was young she was good to me
On the mountain ‘neath the summer sun she was wild and free
We made it to the ocean, we parted by the sand
And she married the loyal fisherman
Now he was strong and faithful and loved her desperately
But wasn't there to hold her while away out on the sea
And her heart was getting restless and she dimmed the window lamp
And laid with the lonely stranger not her loyal fisherman
The waves were getting higher a storm started to blow
The lonely stranger stayed that night with nowhere else to go
They fell asleep together in the howling of the wind
And woke up to the lightning and something closing in
Then outside beneath the window, they see a lantern glow
Could the boats have come back early as the swell began to grow
Then the door latch opens gently, "sweet wife I've come back home"
He climbed the creaky stairs that night to find her not alone
As the lightning lit the bedroom he just stood there in the door
A stranger lay beside the one his heart was beating for
She cried and said "I'm sorry", they scrambled from the sheets
The fisherman was broken overcome with disbelief
His lantern fell, the kerosene spread across the floor
The little flame that lit the darkness now burned out of control
The fire climbed the curtains the fire climbed the walls
The stranger climbed the window ledge he must have made the fall
She ran into the hallway down the stairs and onto the lawn
Then out the door came the fisherman whose everything was gone
They watch the house come down together and never spoke a word
Sometimes there's nothing to be said for everything it's worth
The fire still was burning with the rising of the day
Neighbours started gathering from many miles away
And no one knew the secret of the stranger passing through
Just the rolling of the ocean with its different shades of blue
I knew her once when I was young she was good to me
On the mountain neath the summer sun she was wild and free
We made it to the ocean, we parted by the sand
She married the loyal fisherman
We made it to the ocean, we parted by the sand
She married the loyal fisherman
She married the loyal fisherman

Wish I Was Wrong

I Wish I Was Wrong
Dave Gunning/ Jamie Robinson
Has this time of peace reached the end
There's a storm on the ocean it's closing in
We want a safe harbour we want a clean shore
But you'd think it was the whole wide world we were asking for
Now I could name the names but they know who they are
They got a teaspoon of power from a voting card
It's like they never met a promise that they couldn't break
Do their best to divide us if we take the bait
I wish I was wrong I wish I was wrong
I wish I was wrong I wish I was wrong
They say the truth is in the middle but this time I disagree
'cause when it looks you in the eyes you got to call it like you see
We can taste the poison coming from the stacks
And the clouds in the air can't hide the facts
And they only see the forest for the trees
They'll cut them all down before they leave
We have to stand and fight 'cause it can't go on
If in my heart I'm right
I wish I was wrong I wish I was wrong
I wish I was wrong
I wish it never came to this
Putting all we have at risk
Taking everything that's good until it's gone
I wish I was wrong
I wish I was wrong I wish I was wrong
I wish I was wrong I wish I was wrong
Has this time of peace reached the end
There's a storm on the ocean it's closing in

Nothing On Me

Nothing On Me
Dave Gunning/ Jamie Robinson
I’ve never been arrested I’ve never spent the night in jail
Might’ve smoked a couple of times but no one saw me inhale
I'm never out with the in crowd don't swallow no pills
I try to pay my bills
And I never swung my fists in a bar room fight
Don’t terrorize my neighbours in the middle of the night
No clouds of controversy to darken my days
No tragic twist of fate
Ohhh it's a secret that I've been keeping and ohhh still water runs deep
So if you're digging in the dirt I'll be coming up clean
Cause you got nothing nothing on me
No closet full of skeletons or ex-wives on my back
Take nothing but oysters for an aphrodisiac
And underneath my clothes no regrettable tattoos
But even if… I wouldn't show you
Never stole from the kitty never beat up my dog
No incriminating rumours about an inside job
I could throw in my hat to the political ring
But I should probably just sing
Ohhh it's a secret I've been keeping and ohhh still water runs deep
So if you're digging in the dirt I'll be coming up clean
Cause you got nothing, nothing on me
Well it sure feels good to get it off of my chest
This admission of innocence that I've just confessed
And a lesson I've learned from all my disgrace
It's in the past and I can't erase

Beyond The Day

Beyond The Day
Dave Gunning/ Paul McKenna
Where do we go beyond the day there's no good reason to be afraid
We all must stumble along the way to whatever waits beyond the day
Into the night with candles dim and followed by an autumn's wind
Each flame flickers before it fades as it gives all it takes
Where do we go beyond the day is there a place for us beyond the grave
Heaven knows no one can say where we go beyond the day
There's a feeling ever near that every change comes to live in fear
Generations have felt this way though we're here together all the same
Where do we go beyond the day is there a place for us beyond the grave
Heaven knows no one can say where we go beyond the day
If all for nothing if all is here if what we're missing's everywhere
In everything along the road within the sun that sets to gold
Where do we go beyond the day is there a place for us beyond the grave
Heaven knows no one can say where we go beyond the day
Where do we go beyond the day is there a place for us beyond the grave
Heaven knows no one can say where we go beyond the day
Where we go beyond the day
Where we go beyond the day
